Far from the center, displaced and stripped of the artificial, tasteless glamour of the privileged cosmopolitans, the suburbs are home to the desperate cries and utopian dreams of those who will inherit nothing but the curse of poverty passed down by their parents.
Kaos Urbano are Suburbiales in the truest sense of the word, and that is why the title of their latest album fits them to a T. To the middle finger raised in defiance of all the subsidized posturing designed to tame culture and turn it into a hollow, harmless consumer product. In their lyrics, Kaos Urbano describe the reality of the working-class suburbs and so much more; love and heartbreak are present, raw and intense, just like their sound. A polished yet direct sound that cuts through to your emotions because it is sincere. There is a lot of work behind it—you don't achieve this in three days: you have to endure a hell of setbacks and put in thousands of hours to make the songs hit you in the chest like a kick from Cantona.
Kaos Urbano are in the trenches with those who refuse to let memory die, standing with the oppressed, with those who belong to no one, with those who live under clouds of rust, whose sky looks nothing like paradise. Facing death defiantly and on guard, with bruised and bleeding faces but proud smiles, saying: "Come on, come if you dare!"
Each of their albums is a faithful portrait of something real; there is no fiction or posing. But on this latest one, they manage to condense a spirit strengthened by experience and perseverance.
Suburbiales are Kaos Urbano, and suburbiales are we, because we distance ourselves from that passive, equidistant center. We take a side, we put our reputations on the line, and this is our soundtrack.
Enjoy it, bleeding, crying, laughing, and always fighting.
