Julia Holter releases ‘Materia’, a mini-album that complements her latest album, through Domino.
The Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter and composer released her sixth full-length album, ‘Something in the Room She Moves’, in March 2024. Throughout its ten tracks, Holter explored the ups and downs she had experienced (from the birth of her daughter to the loss of a nephew) and the complexity of those experiences.
Now, across the seven songs on ‘Materia’ (the piano and vocal track about learning to live, composed after the ‘Aviary’ tour and included on ‘Something …’), the artist reimagines the song in two versions—with drum machines, clarinet, and the vocals of Jessika Kenney, or slowed down to a whisper—and surrounds it with five previously unreleased art-pop compositions that form a masterful symphony.
