Although Eskorbuto is an unusual word that actually refers to a disease, to us punk fans, it brings to mind the quintessential Spanish band of the genre.
In the 1980s, many bands playing a wide range of musical styles emerged in Spain. La Movida Madrileña was largely responsible for this musical movement, which has left such a rich legacy in our country.
Eskorbuto didn’t form in Madrid, but in the Basque Country, specifically in Santurce, in 1980. They were included in the contemporary phenomenon known as Basque radical rock, although they later publicly asserted their independence as a band, distancing themselves from the movement.
This doesn’t surprise us, since we all know that Eskorbuto was always a special band that left no one indifferent. But in the end, the “sad story” came true, and after Iosu died due to addiction and AIDS, the band split up.
To look back on all those years and their legendary “Mucha policía, poca diversión” (“Lots of police, little fun”), which we’ve all sung at some point in our lives, even if we didn’t know the band, we’ve brought you this Eskorbuto T-shirt.
