In 1982, Bowie starred in Baal, the first theatrical script (1918) written by Bertolt Brecht, in a dramatic production for the BBC directed by Alan Clarke. The story focuses on a wandering poet capable of loving and hating with the same intensity. Alongside the television broadcast, Bowie released a self-titled EP with the songs he had previously performed in the stage production. After that role, Bowie proved to be not only an extravagant character but also a sensitive and talented artist. Even his closest friends stated that they had discovered a rarely seen side of Bowie.
