180-gram vinyl reissue of “Time On Our Side”, the last studio album released by the British progressive jazz rock band Colosseum. Originally released in 2014 by Temple Music, Repertoire Records releases this new edition in 2022 with the 9 original tracks which, in contrast to its predecessor, presents a much broader musical scope: deep grooves, shifting themes and expansive solos. With excellent trumpet work by Barbara Thompson, the opening track “Safe As Houses” sets the bar high, while “City Of Love” is one of the album’s brightest highlights. “Blues To Music” features a creative duet between vocalist Chris Farlowe and Ana Gracey, blurring musical landscapes with rock grooves and improvised jazz. The last of Colosseum’s three “reunion era” albums… In contrast to its predecessor, Time On Our Side presents a much broader musical sweep: deeper grooves, shifting themes and expansive solos. Featuring superb horn work from Barbara Thompson, the opening track ‘Safe As Houses’ sets the bar high, while ‘City Of Love’ is an undoubted highlight. ‘Blues To Music’, a duet between Chris Farlowe and Ana Gracey, showcases the breadth of band’s reach. Never afraid to walk a creative tightrope, Colosseum excel at blurring musical landscapes seeking, in the words of Jon Hiseman, “rocky, jazzy rhythms, vocals with intelligent words, improvised solos.”
