Repeating old patterns has never been part of their plans. This was not the case in a band accustomed to constantly changing its skin like Tenpel, and it certainly is not the case in Delobos, the band they share along with the rhythm section formed by Luis Fuentes and Nacho Romero.What initially emerged as something improvised during the downtime at Tenpel rehearsals has gradually become a project capable of molding the foundations of roots American music to its liking. But after two albums, their debut Moon Moan and the one formed by the trio of conceptual EPs Salt, Flesh, Smoke & The Last Mystical Beings, the Madrid-based band felt they needed to shed certain self-imposed constraints to keep moving forward.

To start with, Raúl decided to shelve the idea of playing with a semi-acoustic sound to fully embrace the electricity of his guitar. For his part, Kantz opted out of English to express himself more freely in his native tongue. These may seem like small changes in their setup, but with them they have managed to capture their best album to date in Prender.

Going to Juan Blas's Westline (one of the most sought-after studios in the Piel de Toro scene), they have developed all their potential in a series of truly inspired songs. 'Maravilla De San Juan' fulfills its introductory role by making them still recognizable despite the language transition. But in 'Consejo De Cuervos' we begin to appreciate that these new Delobos are more accurate when it comes to coming up with solid tracks.

Almost linked appears 'El Descenso', a progressive cut in which Raúl acts with total freedom of movement thanks to the support provided by Luis and Nacho on bass and drums respectively. If we add to that a huge Kantz on vocals, as is customary for him, and a horn section providing greater intensity, we find ourselves facing a massive banger.

The momentum does not fade in 'El Rito Del Grito' with elegant yet playful dynamics that make it another of the favorites. For their part, the percussion in 'Selva' and the experimental 'Leviatán' serve as a canvas to capture landscapes as evocative as that chilling Lovecraftian tale that Kantz delivers in the latter.

Although if I had to choose only one, that would be 'Caídos Del Cielo', where in addition to working at full capacity, they feature the participation of Rubén Martínez (Viven, Ànteros) and Juan Blas himself (Caboverde, Minor Empires) to deliver another perfect song before the heartbreaking 'Esta Habitación' and 'Sacra' close it out in a stunning way.

With Prender Delobos should finally start to be taken seriously on their own merits and not for being "the-other-band-from-the-ex-members-of". If you are a fan of De La Cuna A La Tumba or Habitar La Mar and you still haven't paid attention to them, I would tell you that you won't find another band of similar coordinates in them, but you will find one at least as good.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0805/0475/0407/files/VINILO-DELOBOS-PRENDER-COMPRAR-VINILO.jpg?v=1793327227
