Brisbane quartet Blank Realm return with their most blistering release to date. 'Grassed Inn' expands further the fluorescent pop leanings that shone through last year's critically acclaimed 'Go Easy'. The result is an album packed with soaring psych melodies, dark love-stained lyrics and one of the sharpest pop records to emerge from the current Australian underground renaissance. Having moved on from their more open-ended experimental beginnings, Blank Realm have veered towards songs in the manner of late period Big Star, The Zombies, or Echo and the Bunnymen, all refracted through a grimy basement lens. Blank Realm comprises of siblings Daniel Spencer (vocals and drums), Sarah Spencer (synth and vocals) and Luke Spencer (bass), with the addition of Luke Walsh on guitar. Constraining the psychedelic wanderings of their previous recordings, they have made a conscious effort to compose their new material within a more orthodox song structure. The new album is much catchier than anything they have previously crafted but lyrically much darker. The album's themes encompass obsession, servitude and the obliteration of self through romantic yearning, all of which provide a subversive contrast to the unflinching dynamism that explodes throughout the songs themselves. All tracks were recorded and re-recorded to ensure the vitality of their live show was captured on each take. Grassed Inn is a startling prospect, one that harnesses the spirit of the critically acclaimed Go Easy and propels it into one of the most exciting experimental pop albums of recent years. A bold statement from one of the hottest Aussie bands today, Grassed Inn perfectly captures the times with its dual celebration of glorious song and individual expression.

Sello: Fire Records

LP reissue - with new Gold printed sleeve. Originally released in tiny edition of 52 on Albert's Basement, Blank Realm's 2010 album 'Déjà What?' became a homeland hit in Australia after it was picked up by Brisbane's Bedroom Suck label. The album is an uneasy marriage of 70/80s US experimental punk with ultra-crude Flying Nun styled pop. At times it's hard to tell if the results are casual and unfinished, or if the album is a complete universe unto itself. For those who have just got wise to this year's acclaimed 'Go Easy', 'Déjà What?' will prove an essential backtrack in this fascinating origin story.

Sello: Fire Records

Fire Records are thrilled to announce that they have signed one of their favourite bands, Australian psychedelic pop outfit Blank Realm. Their new album Go Easy initially came out on a limited edition, vinyl only run via tastemaker label Siltbreeze but now through Fire it will be getting the widely distributed release it deservesHailing from Brisbane, Blank Realm consists of three siblings, Daniel, Luke and Sarah Spencer, and Luke Walsh. Renowned for their ecstatic live performances and boundary-pushing, yet listenable records, the group have released several sold out recordings on labels including Not Not Fun, Digitialis, Albert's Basement and MusicYourMindWillLoveYou. The band's formidable live reputation has been earned over the course of over 200 live performances with acts such as the Kurt Vile, Wild Flag, Zola Jesus, Sun Araw, The Clean, Robert Forster, Wet Hair, Jandek, Grouper, Damo Suzuki and Royal Headache. Their new album, Go Easy, is an incredible blend of psychedelic rock & roll and super-catchy pop smarts. Sometimes their sound approaches the post-punk desperation of Joy Division, other times it possesses the playful, superfuzzed psych of the Flaming Lips. More than anything, Go Easy has THE SONGS. It comes in late and without much warning, but it is absolutely worth it and has received a lot of attention from the indie music press, blogs, community radio etc. "... the pop hooks are more pronounced and stronger than ever. Songs like 'Cleaning Up My Mess'... kick off in jangle-heavy Flying Nun fashion before exploding into some seriously tense sinister psychedelia." - The Thousands
